Prop firms in the UK: how they work and what to check

What a UK trader should check before buying a funded trading evaluation: company registration, simulated-account disclosure, payout process and rule transparency.

UK traders comparing prop firms face the same problem as everyone else, plus one extra: many providers are registered nowhere in particular and describe their product in language that implies a regulated service. Knowing what the product legally is makes the comparison much easier.

What the product actually is

An evaluation firm sells access to a simulated trading assessment and, on success, a contract to receive a share of simulated profit. No client money is traded, no investment advice is provided, and the arrangement is not a regulated investment service. Any provider blurring that line is telling you something about how it handles the rest of its disclosures.

Checks worth running from the UK

  • A company number you can look up on the public register, matched to the trading name.
  • A registered office address, not just a support email.
  • Written confirmation that accounts are simulated, visible before checkout.
  • A payout process with stated timings, thresholds and identity requirements.
  • Terms, refund policy and complaints route published as their own pages.
  • Pricing in a currency you can pay in without a surprise conversion spread.

Tax and record keeping

Profit-share payments are your own affair to declare, and the treatment depends on your circumstances. Keep your statements and payout records from day one, and take professional advice rather than advice from a trading group — nothing here is tax advice.

Where we stand

We are a UK-registered company with the number and registered office printed in the footer, our accounts are clearly disclosed as simulated, and our rules, complaints procedure and payout terms are public pages you can read before spending anything.

All trading on Next Scale Funded is simulated. Nothing on this page is investment advice.
